Another season of football got underway this weekend as the Premiership started its 2007/08 season. Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool all started the season successful all gaining 3pts. While Man U started with a unimpressive nil nil draw with Reading, where Man U not only failed to score, but also lost the services of Wayne Rooney for up to 2 months with a ankle fracture.
In the MLS, Toronto F.C failed to score a goal yet again as they were handled by NY Red Bulls 3-0. Toronto were not able to hold teenager Jozy Altidore off the score sheet as he netted a pair of goals while Juan Pablo Angel scored the other. I was looking forward to this match against NY Red Bulls, while i had a feeling that Toronto would walk away from NY with a tie, apparently I was wrong, as Toronto was beat by a much better team. Toronto also played with a man down as Toronto Midfielder Chris Pozniak received a red card for a take down on Red Bulls Dane Richards.
Toronto has been facing a numerous amount of injuries which includes fan favorite Danny Dichio, Cunninghame and Ronnie O'Brien. All three players are starters for Toronto and are key components to the FC offence.
Watching the game, I have to be honest and was discouraged to see the field conditions of Giants Stadium. It is discouraging as a avid Soccer fan to watch a game at the MLS level on a American Football field. How do we expect to promote the game further when teams such as NY Red Bulls lack there own soccer facility? I tell you one thing, BMO field, although field turf is still a Soccer Facility and for that I am thankful!
Also note, Beckham did not see action against the Revolution due to his ongoing ankle injury.
FC Scoreless streak 462 min...
Cheers to the mighty Redpatch boys.
We want Dichio Back
